What are the Essential Skills?

I am trying to identify a range of essential skills which undergraduates and diploma students can work towards and develop during their studies.

I intend to enable the students to use these after graduation and in employment as a Continuing Professional Development Portfolio.

I am looking at skills which demonstrate Numeracy, Communications, Technology, People and Work Relationship Management, Developing Self, Citizenship and Entrepreneurship. Each skill would have a range of developmental outcomes to be evidenced as they progress but which would be authentic, valid, sufficient and current.

For Numeracy, Communications, Technology,and Developing Self I have the permission to use and modify the Key Skills from the U.K. Learning and Skills Council.

I would appreciate any thought on this and also on the notion of developing this as an e-portfolio in a personal learning environment.
